Having been announced as Regional Winners (North West ) in the RICS Building Conservation Category, Dalton Hall Business Centre in Cumbria has now won through to the short-list for the RICS Internatioal Awards.
Just a selection of the original 300 entries have managed to make their way onto the shortlist of the RICS Awards Grand Final – and Dalton Hall Business Centre is one of them! Each project has already beaten stiff competition and will now be pitted against its national and international peers hoping to take away the winning award for Building Conservation, Community Benefit, Regeneration and Sustainability. In addition, all shortlisted projects aspire to win the highest accolade, the revered RICS Project of the Year prize, won by Oxford Castle in 2007. The 2008 winners will join a long line of inspirational schemes including the iconic Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth , London ’s Royal Opera House, the Eden Project in Cornwall and the 2000 Olympic Games Site in Sydney Australia.
The International Judging will take place in August, with the winners to be announced at a London gala event in October hosted by Kevin McCloud of Channel 4’s Grand Designs fame. Rural Solutions Construction transformed the heritage former model farm buildings at Dalton Hall into contemporary, stylish office accommodation, alongside which Rural Solutions Consultancy worked with the Dalton Hall team to understand their new rural workspace and market it to the right audience.
The RICS regional judges commented on the quality of workmanship, the beautiful symmetry of the buildings and, most importantly to them, the fact that the scheme is already fully occupied with companies who are flourishing in their new working environment.
“This is a tremendous result which reinforces our belief in Rural England as a place to live work and play – a place where business really happens – and that the nation’s redundant heritage buildings really can have a purposeful future” commented Amanda May from Rural Solutions Consultancy.
